We are delighted to invite you to the first session of the Fall 2023 Computational Medicine Seminar Series, where we will delve into the fascinating world of Edge and IoT-supported Intelligent Augmented Reality (AR). This seminar series aims to bring together faculty, staff, students, and trainees who share a passion for the intersection of technology and healthcare.

Event Details:
- Date: September 27, 2023
- Time: 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM EDT
- Location: Virtual Event

Zoom Meeting ID: 980 6744 9883

Speaker:
Dr. Maria Gorlatova
Nortel Networks Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Seminar Topic:
Title: Edge and IoT-supported Intelligent Augmented Reality: Promise, Challenges, and Solutions

In this session, Dr. Gorlatova will present her visionary perspective on the future of Augmented Reality (AR) and its pivotal role in healthcare. AR has already demonstrated remarkable potential across various domains, including education, retail, and healthcare. However, there remain critical challenges that need to be addressed to fully harness its capabilities in healthcare.

Dr. Gorlatova's talk will focus on the development of multi-device, edge computing-supported, and Internet-of-Things (IoT)-integrated platforms for next-generation intelligent context-aware AR. She will discuss the current shortcomings in AR's spatial and semantic awareness, identifying key gaps and presenting innovative solutions. Topics such as edge computing, machine learning, and resource-efficient simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) will be explored in the context of AR advancement.

Additionally, the seminar will highlight the exciting opportunities arising from the close integration of AR platforms and users, with a special emphasis on robust gaze-based user context awareness. Dr. Gorlatova will showcase practical applications of next-generation context-aware AR, including AR-based surgical guidance and AR support for mental and behavioral health and well-being.

We encourage all those interested in the future of computational medicine and the transformative potential of AR in healthcare to join us for this insightful session.

We look forward to your participation in this exciting seminar!
